The concert in DC was fantastic.

The whole experience leading up to it could not have been better.  Quite a few of us met before dinner in our lovely hotel room.  For some it was meeting for the first time face to face, others we had not seen since last year and was so nice to say hello and just chill out and get the DG vibes going.   Then it was down to dinner.  Great dinner and quality time with friends.  The venue was a few blocks on foot and we were so lucky to have had great weather, the walk was so refreshing.  As we walked up the sidewalk to the front of the venue we came upon the guys outside getting some fresh air themselves before the show.  Some waved and others said good luck for the show tonight...as we walked by.  - The excitement was beginning to build.  Once inside it was off the the Merchandise area.   I DID GET MY T-SHIRT I WAS HOPING FOR but oh-my are they cut small!!  The brown girly-cut - an x-large was going to just fit and that may even be a bit small....lol....wonder what girls they base this sizing on...LOL...but I was happy to have my t-shirt and download card for the free song.  VERY COOL.  Everyone was able to purchase what they were hoping for.....good job by MGMT having such a good supply!  We all found our seats and within a few minutes the show began.  The music was fabulous....everyone has been posting the songs so we all knew what we would be treated to and "treated" we were.  The band never sounded better.  They were enjoying themselves as much as we were.  David was "spot-on" and the guys were fantastic too.  Claire de lune I shed a tear (which is unusual for me) so I mention this just to let you know how the music totally spoke to me and moved me.  The song "Raise Me Up",  David and the guys were TREATED to a standing ovation and a truly think David was touched.  HE/THEY deserved it.....it was just one of those perfect concerts.  The song "We Will Rock You" from Queen everyone was actually standing singing and DANCING along to most of it.

Perfect night - perfect friends - perfect band.

The meet and greet was sooo neat.  WETA told us to sit in the auditorium and Mr. Garrett would be there soon. David came in, sat on the stage and said he would answer our questions. They were anything from favorite composer, album, to does he have a say in venues or is it management. After about 10 questions,  we lined up and he would sign anything we had.  I was happy to see a young musician bring her violin to have signed, and a gentleman thanked him for bringing us his music and filling us with joy!Smile

PBS took our pictures and I hope we get them soon.

I will write more about his performance, the new songs, the band, and all of their kindness. I am just totally blown away. Music

Концерт в Вашингтоне был фантастическим.

(большая часть отзыва о том, как они встретились с друзьями в гостинице, потом пообедали, потом пошли пешком к концертному залу, там купили футболки, которые оказались на них малы, и получили карту для бесплатной закачки песен).

Мы сели на наши места незадолго до начала шоу. Музыка была потрясающая… каждый из нас постит эти песни, поэтому мы знали, чего ожидать, и мы это получили. Бэнд был как никогда в ударе. Они также наслаждались происходящим, как и мы. Дэвид играл точнейше, ребята тоже были фантастическими. На Claire de lune у меня на глаза навернулись слезы (что мне не свойственно). Я говорю об этом, чтобы рассказать, как я прониклась музыкой, она меня очень тронула. После Raise Me Up Дэвиду и ребятам аплодировали стоя, и я думаю, что Дэвид был этим тронут. Он/они заслужили это… Это был один из прекраснейших концертов. На We Will Rock You все пели стоя и танцевали.

Прекрасный вечер – прекрасные друзья – прекрасный бэнд.

Мит-и-грит получился таким хорошим. WETA сказала нам оставаться в зале, куда мистер Гарретт скоро подойдет. Пришел Дэвид, уселся на сцену и сказал, что он готов отвечать на вопросы. Спрашивали про все - от любимого композитора и альбома до того, кто выбирает залы – он или менеджмент. После 10 вопросов мы выстроились в линию и он ставил автографы на всем, что ему давали. Я была рада видеть девочку-музыканта, которая принесла свою скрипку, чтобы он на ней расписался, а один джентльмен поблагодарил его за то, что он делает свою музыку и наполняет нас радостью!

PBS сфотографировала нас, надеюсь, мы скоро получим свои фотографии.

Я еще напишу больше о выступлении, новых песнях, бэнде и их доброте. Просто сейчас я витаю в облаках.

Heather you expressed my sentiments as well. this was one of the most special concerts I've ever attended. It was such a pleasure to meet the various forum members and know that we shared a common bond. the excitement level just kept notching up as more friends arrived from various destinations. I was one of the earliest to arrive and had the extra excitement of a fire evacuation from our hotel around midnight the first night in DC. but as we clustered on the sidewalk and waited to find out what was wrong, (some sort of electrical malfunction that triggered sprinklers on the top floor and caused flooding in several rooms.) I joined the other forum members present and laughed because, there was no fire, thank goodness, and it was just an extra adrenaline rush for our adventure.

the following day was filled with sightseeing and exploring and good meals with good friends..then it was the day of the concert and the rest of our group began to arrive. From FL to PA and As far west as Chicago and WA state, we're all willing to travel to see these special musicians. the venue was a nice performance hall on George Washington University campus, but it was mystifying to me that there was not a single poster, notice, ANYTHING, announcing David's performance that evening. we heard that it was sold out, so perhaps someone didn't feel the need to advertise..I'm just not sure why this was the case. I'm guessing, but I would say the venue seated around 1200-1500 people. It was rather plain and modern inside, but very comfortable and the acoustics were great.

My only complaint was the photography security people who announced no video and no flash photography allowed, then proceeded to harass the people taking non flash photos multiple times during the show. Since I was sitting on the aisle, she wanted ME to tell people in the center of the row to stop. It was disruptive and unnecessary, but it could not detract from the beautiful music we heard. Favorites this show: Hungarian Danse #2 by Brahms...so lively and virtuosic, also cannot get enough of the Coldplay arrangement of Viva la Vida. David in simply brilliant and inventive and the harmony by Marcus and Franck is an extra bonus! LOVE! Claire de Lune is so romatic and evocative and David's arrangement with John's excellent keyboard, is just breathtaking. The Beethoven Scherzo is amazing!! LOVE LOVE and David asked our indulgence when he premiered another new tune. "I hope we don't suck" he said, and of course they most certainly DIDN't suck! As if! I think David has learned how much the audience loves his pizzicato on "Human Nature" because he has added some to other tunes in the set list that I didn't remember hearing in Seattle. David must hear the love the audience shares through their applause and adjusts his music accordingly.

the evening passed far too quickly and after the house lights came up, it was time to say farewell to some friends who were driving home and then as a special treat, Jeff Allen and Franck came back to the stage to chat with the audience members and sign autographs. Thank you guys!!! we headed back to the hotel sharing our thoughts and photos and some videos that we had taken..(who me?) We met up for the after party that continued until the wee hours. What a nice group of ladies may I say. You all rock!! while some of us slept in and straggled down to breakfast the next morning, others were off early on the train to NYC and another amazing performance by David and the band. what an absolutely fabulous weekend Lynn

Хитер, ты выразила и мои чувства. Это был один из самых особенных концертов, на которых я когда-либо была. Было очень приятно встретить членов форума и знать, что нас объединяет что-то общее. По мере того, как прибывало все больше друзей из разных городов, волнение нарастало. Я приехала одной из первых, и мое волнение было умножено в связи с пожарной эвакуацией из гостиницы около полуночи в первую ночь пребывания в Вашингтоне. Мы собрались на тротуаре и ждали, пока выяснят, в чем причина (какой-то сбой в электрике разбрызгивателей на верхнем этаже, из-за чего некоторые номера затопило). Я присоединилась к собравшимся форумчанам с хорошим настроением, поскольку никакого пожара не было, слава богу, а у меня появился адреналин для наших приключений.

На следующий день мы осматривали город и вкусно ели с хорошими друзьями. Затем наступил день концерта, оставшиеся члены группы начали подтягиваться. От Флориды до Пенсильвании, из Чикаго и штата Вашингтон, мы все готовы путешествовать, чтобы увидеть этих особенных музыкантов. Концерт проходил в приятном зале в кампусе Университета им. Джорджа Вашингтона, но для меня осталось загадкой, почему не было ни одной афиши, ни одного объявления, НИЧЕГО, чтобы говорило о выступлении Дэвида в тот вечер. Мы слышали, что будет аншлаг, наверное, поэтому не было необходимости в рекламе… Уверена, что причина в этом. Зал рассчитан примерно на 1200-1500 человек. Он достаточно простой и современный внутри, но очень удобный и с великолепной акустикой.   

Единственное, что мне не понравилось – фотополиция, которая объявила, что фото- и видео-съемка запрещены, а затем все время в ходе шоу беспокоила людей, которые снимали без вспышки. Поскольку я сидела с краю, одна из них попросила МЕНЯ, чтобы я сказал людям, сидящим в середине ряда, прекратить съемку. Это отвлекало и было лишним, но все равно не смогло отвлечь меня от красивой музыки, которую мы слышали. Фавориты шоу: Венгерский танец №2 (недолет! В оригинале - №5 – прим. пер.) Брамса… такой энергичный и виртуозный; также могу бесконечно слушать аранжировку Viva La Vida Coldplay. Дэвид выступал блестяще и изобретательно, к тому же еще в гармонии с Маркусом и Франком! ЛЮБЛЮ! Claire de Lune такая романтичная и вызывающая воспоминания, а версия Дэвида, исполненная вместе с прекрасным клавишником Джоном, просто захватывает дух. Скерцо Бетховена поразительно! ЛЮБЛЮ, ЛЮБЛЮ. Дэвид попросил у нас разрешения исполнить премьеру новой песни. «Надеюсь, это не будет ужасно», сказал он. И, конечно, они не подвели! Как будто может быть другой результат! Мне кажется, Дэвид знает, как публике полюбились его пиццикато в Human Nature, и поэтому он использовал их и в других песнях сет-листа, которые я не слышала в Сиэтле. По аплодисментам Дэвид понимает, что нравится зрителям, и соответственно этому подбирает композиции.

Вечер прошел слишком быстро, и когда стали гаснуть огни в зале, настало время прощаться с друзьями, которые уезжали сразу домой. Вдруг, как подарок, Джефф Аллен и Франк вернулись на сцену поболтать с кем-то их публики и раздать автографы. Спасибо, ребята!!! Мы возвращались в гостиницу, обмениваясь впечатлениями и сделанными видео… (кто, я?). Мы встретились на афтепати, которая продолжалась до утра. Какая милая девчачья компания, должна я сказать. Вы все классные! На следующее утро пока кто-то спал, кто-то завтракал, другие уже уезжали ранним поездом в Нью-Йорк, чтобы увидеть еще одно удивительное представление Дэвида и бэнда. Абсолютно потрясающий уикэнд.
